SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

A Summer Camp Junior Counselor’s job is to support the camp leader by assisting with daily activities, camper supervision, and program planning, while ensuring the safety and well-being of all campers. This position involves direct interaction with campers, ensuring their comfort, and assisting with activities. 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist the camp leader in overseeing campers, ensuring their safety and well-being during all activities. 
  2. Assist in facilitating camp activities. 
  3. Provide personal care for campers as needed, such as helping with meals or snacks.   
  4. Communicate with campers and other staff members to ensure clear communication and cooperation. 
  5. Follow safety protocols and procedures, and assist in emergencies, as needed. 
  6. Clean up and organize camp facilities and supplies after activities. 
  7. Performs other support duties as needed for their assigned camps. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 14 years old by the start of the camp. 
  • Must have completed 8th grade or higher.
  • If current student, in good academic and behavioral standing.
  • Experience working with younger children (babysitting, tutoring, or mentoring) is a plus but not required. 
  • If under 18, parental/guardian permission. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during camp activities.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds (e.g., supplies, games, equipment).
  • Physically able to participate in and supervise activities.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions (heat, sun, light rain).
  • Able to respond quickly to emergency situations, as needed.
  • Sufficient vision and hearing to safely monitor and interact with children
